I sat down to one of the many debates scheduled for the Republican candidates to state there positions and apparently feelings on why they should be President. The only ones who did not seem to state why they feel they should be President of the United States is Rick Santorum and Ron Paul from what I could tell. The new beast, that is Newt-Romney, has so elegantly stated how I feel about the two of them. The new Newt-Romney beast has forever tied together the two leading candidates, a good call Michele Bachmann’s crew, hopefully forming a lasting tie in all the viewers brains that will hold Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney as a single unit, forcing a split between their votes. It has yet to be seen how many jokes will be made, but it is certain that the new Newt-Romney monstrosity will dampen the hopes of both parties, or at least, brighten the spirits of those listening to jokes!
Now that I’ve gone through the fun of the night lets get down to facts, it was true Newt Gingrich has flip flopped all over (key point Dr. Paul brought up) during his time serving the public, in fact, as I understand it, he lead the long drawn out process of trying to pin something on Bill Clinton. Convincing the House to bring up the impeachment process and spending millions of dollars attempting to pin something on him (which they were unable to do because there was nothing to really be found), even though in the debate he claims he supported Clinton in the debates. Might seem like a bit of a stretch, but think about this, after his utter failure and wild goose chase after Clinton do you think he simply left office because he wanted to, think about it. In the debate tonight he made it seem as though he took a break to “work in the private sector,” which perhaps he did…because he had little to no other choice.
That is all I will say on Gingrich, now to the his other half, Mitt Romney. “We are the shinning city on the hill!” Oh yes, we all know the Republican god Ronald Reagan, but do I really have to hear you say that five times every time I hear you speak? Look Mitt Romney has held fairly low percentages in the straw polls when you get down to it, I believe CNN said he was a leading candidate the other day however I ask you to Google straw polls real quick, that is correct not any where on there do you see Romney in the lead. In the debate Romney is flustered when attacked, stumbles over words, repeats phrases, his only true asset is that he has a solid plan for an economy with “numbers” number that cannot be supported until he has all the information (which he cannot until he is President) and just tossing it out there, the Senate controls the budget.
Santorum held up well in my opinion tonight, he supported himself by claiming he has not flip flopped (and from what I have found he has not), he held his beliefs, talked over people (which annoys me personally), and talked knowledgeably. All around in this debate I feel he did very well besides some stuttering, which was minimal, and the fact he supported Gingrich. Although yes I like an honest man he simply did not need to say that and I feel it attached him to another older, more experienced candidate and over all likely caused himself to be harmed in this debate. I highly doubt he’ll win in any upcoming straw polls and his honesty has cost him in this case, but besides that he was a good candidate.
Rick Perry… Well this man I feel has a lot to learn, he simple stuttered too much, fought to hard against Romney about his book, which is all I am going to say. Simply look up the part about Romney’s book.
Michele Bachmann said she liked Cain’s 999 Plan, which was a joke. I can not stand her.
Ron Paul as usual speaks seldom and when he does the crowd goes wild, many time every other Speaker will speak except Ron Paul. However, when he does speak it is simple, makes sense, is not a metaphor or convoluted, and most of all he keeps to the rules agreed to as best as he can (which was only suppose to be a one minute response in this debate). He does on the other hand have an issue, he simply is not heard, Newt-Romney had at least four times what Ron Paul did for speaking time. Often when he does speak he looks feeble (though perhaps not as feeble as most seventy year olds plus), although he always (every time he spoke this debate) has a large cheer after he speaks, he lacks the ability to persuade the masses because he does not break the rules like the other candidates. Overall I do not believe he will be able to beat out Mitt Romney who has the Republican brasses support or Gingrich the manipulating machine, but he’ll give them a run for their money.
To conclude this I will list the candidates who I feel did best and why I feel they should receive this position:
- Ron Paul – Followed rules, at the end of the debate many candidates conceded that they learned from Dr. Paul, he always keeps an enthused crowd, and never said if or when he becomes president.
- Santorum – Well spoken tonight, supported himself, was a predominant and didn’t make many mistakes.
- Gingrich – Crowd seemed to like him, he made jokes, skated the truth (dodged bullets), and although I caught him winking at the chairmen and trying to get a rise out of the crowd, I doubt others will notice.
- Romney - Gingrich managed to keep him contained, repeated himself with the most annoying phrase I have heard in the debates besides the 999 plan and simply did not manage to say anything that I felt inspired by or managed to get the crowd going.
- Perry – Might be an alright governor, but he seems a bit less informed than the other candidates, slightly too religious, outspoken (when less informed), and was man handled by Romney.
- Bachmann – 999 plan was good, marched on Washington, all I got from her.
